Apple Picking and Book Fair

This past weekend we drove to Markham to pick apples and then on to Harrisonburg for the Green Valley Book Fair...it was excellent!

We got a manageable amount of apples (Staimen) this year, and also picked up a couple bags of "windfall" apples for baking. Directly afterwards we went to the Apple House, a few exits further down 66, to get fresh hot Apple Cider Doughnuts. Incredible.

After a couple doughnuts, we drove on to Harrisonburg to eat Chicken Saag at the Indian American Cafe. We've decided that though it was our favorite college hang-out and Indian restaurant for years, Preet Palace has replaced it in our hearts...and honestly the wait is simply too long for a simple lunch. It took us 1 1/2 hours!

The bookfair was good, though the kids were a bit rowdy near the end, wanting to hang on my back or shoulders while I lugged around our handbasket of books.

That evening we took a dozen fresh doughnuts to Scott and Crystal's fall BBQ, along with our kids, which they gracefully entertained. Scott and Crystal put on a good party, and Lucas and Jean got to play Wii bowling:)

I made four apple pies the next day, while drinking Monk (hard) cider from last year's apple weekend...good times.
