This Weekend

Turns out that one can’t get a framing inspection until ALL services are in: plumbing, gas, electric, ducts, etc, as one of these might need to cut a hole in a weight-bearing stud and will have to be reinforced, requiring more framing work etc.
SO, we haven’t had our framing inspection yet and will be pushing ahead with electric IF our plumber is done and we won’t get in his way. Of course, I haven’t had time to lay out the circuits yet, so can’t begin drilling holes in my studs, willy nilly.
We’ll probably do some siding on Saturday and perhaps begin nailing down receptacle boxes to the studs on Sunday.
Oh! And Saturday we’re going to pick up a sofa couch (from our dear friend Marilyn M.) in the morning, so if you’re coming out, we won’t be there until noonish…call ahead to the Phillipsons if you’re not sure. My cell doesn’t work so well out there…

More Siding, Framing

With the good weather this past weekend, we proceeded with some more Hardi Plank? siding on the north side of the house.
Paul Haase came out on Saturday, and with my dad’s help we got one more short wall completely done and part of a full height wall. That puts us at about 25% done, what with four more full height walls to do, with their soffet and trim work, three more short walls, and the dormer faces.
It was great to have Paul out – we bonded on all things manly and construction-like.

Wood Smoke

Crazy three-day weekend! On Saturday I went to Hearthwood and got the cathedral ceiling support for our chimney put in. I actually got to use a chain saw to cut a hole in my house! How many suburbanites have hankered to do that since that dream sequence in the burbs?
Anyway, I also got to climb on to the roof, which was great in that nice weather we had.
Jean and Lucas even came out in morning to help me set up, but it was too cold for my little man, so we all went back around lunch time.

Cap'n! We Have Power!

That’s right! We’ve got POWER!!!! Woo-hoo!
Bob went out on site today to do some framing work and found we have full power. Sweet.
AND our water line is getting inspected tomorrow. We’re not hooking up our well pump just yet, as none of our plumbing is insulated yet.
Things are a happenin’!

The Devil is in the Details

We’re ALMOST done with framing. I predict with one more full weekend of work, we can get a framing inspection and move on to either the wood stove installation or electrical work ASAP.
This past weekend, our good friend Paul Haase brought out his Dewalt set of 18volt tools (very cool) to help Bob and myself continue working on rough framing details (an oxymoron in itself).
Saturday, we carried the load of the upper floors down to the basement properly, shoring up our studs in particular places, and also framed out the coat closet.

Every Day Counts

This past week we got A LOT accomplished. I took off work last week to relax, work on the house, and spend time with Jean and Lucas.
During the week, I spent some time on the one-man jobs that needed to get done.
Unfortunately, due to weather, it was pretty difficult to get our sub-coworkers out on site, but we did get Simpson Heating & AC as well as Ground Water to Hearthwood on Thursday.
